The Oakland Athletics announced today the club has traded utility infielder Marco Scutaro to the Toronto Blue Jays for minor league right-handed pitchers Kristian Bell and Graham Godfrey.
Scutaro finished the 2007 season with a .260 batting average to go along with seven home runs and 41 RBI in 104 games.
Bell, who was selected by the Blue Jays in the 11th round of the 2004 First Year Player Draft, posted a 3-7 record with a 5.33 ERA (46er in 77.2ip) in 22 games, including 11 starts, for Single-A Dunedin last season. The 23-year old right-hander has a 18-17 record and a 4.18 ERA (147er in 316.1ip) in 79 minor league appearances, including 49 starts.
Godfrey, 23, posted a 6-7 record and a 3.98 (49er in 110.2ip) ERA in 21 games, all starts, for Single-A Lansing last season in his first year of professional ball. He was selected by the Blue Jays in the 34th round of the 2006 First Year Player Draft out of the College of Charleston.
Sounds like a good deal to me. I mean, anytime you can get 2 prospects, even marginal ones, for a bench player, that's a good deal!
